Slaidburn Silver Band were due to give a Sunday afternoon concert on the Clitheroe Castle Bandstand on the 6th September.  It was also Clitheroe Town Band’s turn, this year, to give the Last Night of the Proms concert.  Both concerts have had to be cancelled.  The picture below shows the state of the bandstand and amphitheatre in mid July.

In an article on the Ribble Valley Council website ( click here to see the article ) published 20th May 2026, work on the refurbishment of the bandstand and amphitheatre was due to start.  As can be seen the work is not complete and this has forced the cancellations of the performances.

The Last Night of the Proms concerts are held annually on the last Saturday of July.  The performances are given on alternative years by Slaidburn Silver Band and Clitheroe Town Band.  This year’s concert by Clitheroe Town Band had already been rearranged for Saturday 22nd August, assuming that all the work would have been finished.  Due to this cancellation Clitheroe Town Band will now give the concert next year, on 31st July.  Therefore, Slaidburn Silver Band will give their next Proms concert in July 2028.

On Monday 9th February the band were delighted to receive an invitation to play for His Majesty King Charles III’s visit to Clitheroe.  The King arrived by Royal Train at Clitheroe Station and the band were expecting to play on the platform as he alighted.  Unfortunately, the arrangements had to be changed as there was insufficient room and the band were repositioned outside the station, behind barriers.  

King Charles spent some time talking to local school children who were waiting to greet him, before going on a ‘walkabout’ to meet other members of the public further along Railway View Road. He then left by car to continue his visit to other parts of Lancashire.
