On Saturday 19th October the band gave a concert in Slaidburn Village Hall. The theme of the concert was ‘Music from the Movies’ and was complemented by a visual presentation. This consisted of scenes from the films associated with the music and information about the composers.
This concert was a result of an Auction of Promises in 2018 in aid of St Andrew’s Church, Slaidburn. The Band pledged a free concert as a lot and was successfully bid for by a parishioner.
The concert opened with the 20th Century Fox fanfare, then followed the musical history of films, from the silent era to the Bond film, Skyfall.
Tea, coffee and cakes were provided by volunteers and there was a bar. Helpers from the Village Hall assisted with setting up the room and clearing away afterwards. The event was well attended and the audience were very appreciative of the concert. A retiring collection was taken, with the sum raised, £471, being given to the Church.

New Website Launched
Slaidburn Silver Band released its latest website today.
The previous website had proved problematical, with a number of reliability issues, which were beyond the control of the band.
The new website has a different feel and design, with a slightly changed structure - please check the menu above.
Unfortunately some of the news items from the previous website were lost, but we have tried to reconstruct them, as best as we can.
Following visits to the Slaidburn Archive office a number of photographs, new to us, have been added to the galleries.
These photographs span from the Band’s beginnings up to 2008. The Band is very thankful for their assistance in our researches.
The Archive has a wide range of records going back centuries and covering the surrounding area. They also have for sale a number of local histories.
For further information visit their site by clicking here.
